Sauti said: O best of the twice born! When this turmoil was going on, Gāruḍa, the king of the birds, swiftly came to where the gods were.
सौति ने कहा: हे द्विजों में श्रेष्ठ! जब यह उथल-पुथल चल रही थी, पक्षियों के राजा गरुड़ तेजी से वहाँ आये जहाँ देवता थे।
Having seen his great strength, the gods began to tremble in fear. They even began to attack each other with their weapons.
उसकी महान शक्ति को देखकर देवता भय से कांपने लगे। वे एक-दूसरे पर अपने-अपने हथियारों से हमला भी करने लगे।
Among those guarding the somā, was Bhauvana, as radiant as the lightning and fire and unparalleled in his great valour.
सोम की रक्षा करने वालों में भौवन भी था, जो बिजली और आग के समान तेजस्वी था और अपनी महान वीरता में अद्वितीय था।
But after an instant's great fight, he lay dead, ripped apart by the beaks, talons and wings of the Indra among birds.

Those who were guarding the amṛtā could not see it because of that dust. Thus, Gāruḍa brought complete turmoil to the world of the gods.
जो लोग अमृत की रक्षा कर रहे थे वे उस धूल के कारण इसे नहीं देख सके। इस प्रकार, गरुड़ ने देवताओं की दुनिया में पूरी उथल-पुथल मचा दी।

Then, the god with the thousand eyes commanded Vāyu, "O Marut! It is your duty to drive the dust away."
तब सहस्र नेत्रों वाले भगवान ने वायु को आज्ञा दी, "हे मरुत! धूल को दूर भगाना तुम्हारा कर्तव्य है।"
Then the mighty Vāyu drove the dust away. When the darkness had disappeared, the gods attacked the bird.
तब शक्तिशाली वायु ने धूल को दूर भगाया। जब अंधेरा गायब हो गया, तो देवताओं ने पक्षी पर हमला किया।

Vinatā's powerful son fought a tremendous battle, showing no signs of tiring out. Like the roar of thunder in the sky, Vinatā's powerful son attacked the gods from all sides with his wings and breast and scattered them in all directions.
विनता के शक्तिशाली पुत्र ने जबरदस्त युद्ध लड़ा, जिसमें थकने का कोई लक्षण नहीं दिखा। आकाश में वज्र की गर्जना के समान विनता के शक्तिशाली पुत्र ने अपने पंखों और छाती से देवताओं पर चारों ओर से आक्रमण किया और उन्हें सभी दिशाओं में तितर-बितर कर दिया।
Oppressed and mangled by Gāruḍa's beak and talons, a lot of blood flowed from the bodies of the gods and they fled.
गरुड़ की चोंच और पंजों से पीड़ित और क्षत-विक्षत देवताओं के शरीर से बहुत सारा रक्त बह गया और वे भाग गए।
the āditya-s to the west and the Nāsatya-s to the north. They retreated while fighting and looked back repeatedly at the immensely energetic enemy.
पश्चिम में आदित्य-एस और उत्तर में नासत्य-एस। लड़ते-लड़ते वे पीछे हट गये और बार-बार पीछे मुड़कर अत्यंत ऊर्जावान शत्रु की ओर देखने लगे।

Thus rendering the gods almost dead, the best of the birds went to where the amṛtā was and found it surrounded from all sides by fire.
इस प्रकार देवताओं को लगभग मृत कर देने के बाद, सर्वश्रेष्ठ पक्षी वहाँ गए जहाँ अमृत था और उन्होंने उसे चारों ओर से आग से घिरा हुआ पाया।
The flames of that great raging fire covered up by the entire sky and moved by violent winds seemed to burn up the hot and sharp rays of the sun.
उस प्रचण्ड प्रचण्ड अग्नि की लपटें सम्पूर्ण आकाश में छा गयीं और प्रचण्ड पवनों से चलती हुई सूर्य की गरम एवं तीक्ष्ण किरणों को जलाती हुई प्रतीत होने लगीं।
The great-souled Gāruḍa thereupon assumed ninety times ninety mouths and drank up with these mouths water from rivers.
तब महाबली गरुड़ ने नब्बे बार नब्बे मुख धारण किये और इन मुखों से नदियों का जल पी लिया।
Returning with great speed and using his wings as a chariot, he quenched the blazing fires with the rivers. Putting out the fires, he adopted a very small form, wishing to enter.
बड़ी तेजी से लौटते हुए और अपने पंखों को रथ के रूप में इस्तेमाल करते हुए, उन्होंने नदियों से धधकती आग को बुझाया। आग बुझाकर उसने प्रवेश की इच्छा से अत्यंत छोटा रूप धारण कर लिया।
